And welcome to a new episode of Digital Coffee Gaming Brew, and I'm your host, Brett Deister, and please subscribe to this podcast and all your favorite podcasting apps. We have a five star review, really does help with the rankings. Let me know how I am doing. But this week I'm gonna be talking about the new game's coming to the Gaming Awards. Not the gaming awards. They never watch it. I hate award shows. They're dumb, they're useless. They're just. They're self congratulating to the industry. So if you like 'em, fine, but I don't, when we talk about some of the games, some of 'em that I'm excited for, some of them that I'm not excited for whatsoever, and wondering why they keep on making these types of games. And then we're gonna be talking about my review of Marvel rivals. I have about, I'd probably say about 60 hours in. This game? Yes, it's grabbed a hold of me more than Delta Force, but Delta Force is a great game too. I will eventually get more hours into that one as well. But anyways, let's get on with the show. That's good. Alright, so the gaming worm happened, what was it, Friday, Thursday. And a slew of developers came out with games. One was not a dog, and it's intergalactic game. Intergalactic the heretic prophet, which well with as about as well as you thought about with Naughty Dog right now. Naughty Dog, used to be a great developer, used to make really great games, and charted was a really great game. Spiro, the dragon. I almost lost my train of thought. Dexter, I forget that name, but they made great games last of us, part one, not part two because it's just becoming this like B rectal, DEI project for Neil Drunken because he really can't help himself from being an elitist and just a snob. In general, and I was watching it and I was like, yeah I'm a good dude. I'm not gonna get this game. Like great if it actually does well, but yeah. And it's not doing well on YouTube either. And especially on the Sony side and Naughty Dog, which they turned off comments, which I'm pretty sure I know why they turned off the comments. But yeah, it's not doing well. People are like, yeah we don't want this. Go back to making. Games like the Uncharted series, specifically one and two, and then last of us Part one, make those games. 'cause we actually want those. So I'm not excited for this. I think this is not gonna do very good. I think they have shot the moon, not Dog has, even though it's a great, it was a great developer. Not so much anymore. We also had our worlds too, which. Surrounding the controversy obsidian, and since obsidian really isn't obsidian anymore, I am optimistic about it, but I'm not confident it's gonna be good. I, it does gimme a lot of like fallout type vibes again, which is fine, but I don't really. I'm skeptical if they, if I see like pronouns insert into this again, I'm like, I'm out. I'm, I just don't wanna deal with this anymore. I don't care about the stupid pronouns. They were not in games in the past. The last two years, they've added more of this into the games. So beyond 2022, you never saw this. And now we're seeing more of this because. Gaming's lagging behind the DEI wokeness stuff, and then they're paying the price of it. Just look at Ubisoft and trying to go private because they can't sell games. Anyways, I'm optimistic. Don't know how well I feel about that. And then World of Tanks developer came out with a new one as well that you can actually sign up for the beta, which. It's gonna be interesting. It's called steel hunters, and it's basically like a Mex multiplayer game, third person multiplayer game. It actually looks pretty cool. I actually got into the beta, haven't played it yet, but I got into it. So I'm actually gonna be, I'm really excited to see what is actually going to happen. And there was the. Murder Midnight Club, which looks interesting. It's kinda like a fun game where you play with people and against people, so that actually looks interesting. The mafia, the old country looks good. It looks interesting. Not really sure much about it. Beyond that, like I said, a lot of these I can't really tell beyond. Ooh, we had these really expensive cinematic graphics, which I forgot to add, but the Donny dog game, inter intergalactic heretic. Profit, like really all the product placements in there. Really Porsche as your spaceship. Sony come on guys, like if gaming expensive, maybe you should look at your overhead and see if you can trim that overhead. But anyways, I digress because that's weird. But the best one, the best and we were all surprised and excited for at the same time. Elden Ring. Elder Ring is coming out with a new one called Night Reign is a standalone three player co-op game, so you can play with friends this time. I don't know if you could play with the original one, but that's actually pretty cool that you can actually play with friends and this is the one I'm excited for. This one. Doomed Dark Ages. Obviously those are the few that I'm actually excited for because I know they're actually going to be good. Then we move on to the Witcher four. And once again, I like the girl boss thing is starting to become overplayed to a certain extent where, so apparently I haven't read all the books, but in the books, Siri never is a Witcher. Now in Witcher four Siri now is a witcher. She never became one in the book. So they forego the lore to do this thing because we need, 'cause city Project red needs to be woke. They have all these DEI projects or initiatives and this is just the latest thing. And I'm not saying apparently online they're saying that she's ugly. I don't really care about that. I don't think they really made her that ugly, but. Each zone. What I'm more concerned about, and this is probably what I'll be talking about actually more fully in next week's episode, is the hero's journey is specifically male. And what has been trying to do, probably for the last 50 years or more, is they've been trying to make women into men to make the, into the hero's journey. Or the issue is that. Men. Men have to prove themselves externally. Women have to have their own hero's journey more internally. So there is a dichotomy between this because men always have to prove themselves, and women don't really, you can if you want to, but it's not like an imperative that you have to prove yourself worthy. You really are already born with being worthy because you are the. Side of the human race that can bear children. And so that gives you value in that, even though modern society is telling women not to have any value anymore with that. But there's an issue here with not understanding that because we don't understand differences in men and women anymore, especially on one side of the spectrum because we. Have been programmed or they've been programmed to say that you can be a man or a woman whenever you feel like it, and that's just not true or logical or even in reality anymore. You're like in your own head space and you need to get back to reality, come back down, but. My issue is I keep on seeing this in games where the story is being written in a specific frame of mind that says that women can be men too. So we'll make a hero's journey, not like a man's hero's journey, where women just inherently are already good at everything and it makes for terrible storytelling. If you're already good at everything, why tell a story? There's no conflict. There's no trying to become better. 'cause you already are better. And so we are living in a situation where most normal people know there's difference between men and women, but the people making these types of entertainment don't know, refuse to know or think we're all bigots for actually pointing it out and saying, look it. Men enjoy video games because you are creating the hero's journey, which resonates with men way more than women. Yes, I know. Competitive shooters, not so much. But when you're playing like RPGs, like this one specifically role-playing games, the hero journey is specifically a male thing. We have tried to make it both for the sake of equality without really understanding that there's only equality of the sexes. When we're talking about law, when we're talking about everything else, it's called. It's a compliment. Complementarianism, we compliment each other. We're not the same, but we compliment each other. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. So men and women compliment, compliment each other because we can't be the same thing. And so stories are becoming more and more of like women being lesser men instead of women being women. And like writing a story about femininity. I think that's a great story. I think it's a great story of understanding yourself, becoming your true full self within yourself, and not having this like grizzled and intergalactic, heretic, heretic, prophet, and shaving your head looking, trying to look quote unquote bad, a ba because we need more women and things. That's really what it is a lot of times is we just need more women. It's that doesn't really make it better. That just makes you a sexist. But that's my issue right now. My issue is not that women cannot be in video games, or women shouldn't be in video games. Not my issue. My issue is that we are not treating each other differently and we're not creating stories specifically to the sexes. We were saying men are terrible so they shouldn't play our video games, but how dare you not buy our video games because now what are you, a misogynist and sexist? And it's if I can't win, I'm just not gonna buy anything now. I'll just play the old games for when you guys understood. What your target audience was and didn't try to preach and insult them, thinking that preaching and insulting them would make them buy your games more. They don't. It doesn't work. People don't like to be insulted all the time. People don't like it. When you do that, and this is a prime example of it. Stop insulting us and you'll be successful. Treat us like your customers and that you actually care about what we think and you'll be successful. It's why Hell Divers Two is Back is again popular. It's why modern Marvel rivals is way more popular than Overwatch two. Overwatch two is not doing very good because it fleeces the customer of it's hard earned money for like little dumb stuff that shouldn't actually have been monetized. But they're trying to monetize everything because they're trying to justify why their game should still be in development, which is a bad way of justifying that your game should be in development. Overwatch was doing great when it first launched. It was making handover fist money with the loop boxes. It's not the monetization that's a problem. It's the gameplay loop. That's the problem. And that you lied. Yeah. It's, it doesn't do well When you put Overwatch too and you're like, oh look, we're gonna give you a PPE. And you go we can't. It's hard. It's gonna take too long. It's hard. It's yeah, you spent like a few good years trying to like make Overwatch to a thing bef and you stop developing over Overwatch just to make Overwatch to a thing. And then when you came you're like, oh, it's eventually gonna come. Oh, it's still coming. Oh, we're still working on it. No, we're not actually working on it. We've figured out that it's just too much. We just need to focus on this. Oh, let's make super tanks, because that's always fun to play against. Oh, let's. Change heroes that don't need to be changed because people are mad, but leave Widow because that's totally a good thing. It is just one of those things, and this is why I don't like gaming awards 'cause it's a popularity contest If you like the games you like, it doesn't really matter if it's popular or not. I might be in the minority with Witcher four, but I don't think Witcher four is gonna do great. I think everybody loved Gerald and that character is a solid character to work with. And you just went with the character that you introduced in the third game because Girl Boss, and it's really what it is. It's girl Boss, that's all that it is. It's, oh, we need. We need a female character. We need to show our feminine power. And it's it's not really Show it. That's how you say that women are men. And then people are confused on why you did it this way when we all want it. This one. Treat your customers like they're valued, and guess what? You'll be successful. But if you start to actually ban them from your steam. Accounts and forums from the Witcher two because you decided to say, Hey, look at a check out our trailer. And they're like, dude, like why would you make this type of game? She's in the lore. She's never this, and I don't understand. You go this is off topic, racist, misogynist, blah, blah, blah, sexist. And it's okay, seriously, get a life mod. Moderators are probably the worst Napoleon complexes I've ever seen. 'cause they think they got like all the power. Look, I have the power of what people can say in this little thing. They get a little power and it goes to their head. But excited for elder ring, excited for steel. The Met Game from World of Tanks Warframe, 1999 looks actually pretty good. Not gonna lie. It actually looks really good. Looks like it's gonna be a fun little game to try out. Turro as well. From Sabre Interactive, that's gonna be a great game. It's going back to like its origin story and everything, but Turro looks like it's gonna be a fun little romp. Dental wolves look good. It's from. Payday the highest, payday two and GTFO, that's actually gonna be awesome. Like there, there were some actually really decent games showcased in the game awards. I just waited till the next day and I just watched all the trailers. I'd like, ah, I don't spend two hours watching something I don't care about. I can just do it now. I do hope this changes eventually, but I do feel like they're gonna have to feel pain before they can actually figure out that maybe they shouldn't be doing this anymore. Maybe just maybe, but I do think that people are starting to get tired, or a good group of people, I should probably say it's getting tired of the girl boss thing. It's overplayed. It's completely overplayed, and there's just. Just not fun. Oh yeah. Also Thick of Thieves actually looks interesting for Moore Inspector. Love the dude. He's the one that made DSX, the original one, which was awesome. So can't go wrong with that one as well. So there are, like I said, there are some really great games that I'm really excited for. And the rest of 'em, nope, no, I'm good. Go your separate way. Not even gonna try to play. You don't even wanna try to play you. You are just fodder for, I wonder why it's not selling. Or if you don't like it, don't buy it. I'm gonna love those. If you don't like it, don't buy. It's alright. I don't know why developers and publishers have decided to say that if someone doesn't like your game, that you shouldn't go buy their game. And it's I was planning on doing that anyways, but okay. Thank you for the endorsement to not buy your game. That's never, ever a good strategy. You learn the hard way with Battlefield five and they stop saying it. And some others have actually learned the hard way of not doing that either. But moving on Steam actually gives more controls of downloads because developers and publishers cannot stop themselves from giving us a hundred to 200 gig games that take forever to download unless you have really good internet. But they're gonna give you more control, more granularly control about when and where to download it because of. Bandwidth data caps is a thing, and so they're gonna give you that type of thing where you'll be able to pick and choose when you wanna actually wanna download it, delay it, and definitely, if you want to, it's a good thing because you don't wanna download every single thing. Some of the games that I've, that I had recently were like 30, 40 gig downloads and I'm like, oh my God. Like why would you do this to me? Stop it. Not making it so ridiculous. Even Blacksmith just had an update. It's 20 gigs. It's oh my God. Stop. I think Hunt Showdown like, man, some of those updates are like huge. Ready or not had a huge update recently. They're all huge updates. They aren't small and I get it like, it's like the new update of everything and Ready or Not had, did have a new DLC come out with a few good maps, but I'm just not excited for a lot of these games being very picky nowadays. I'm like is it really worth my time? Probably not. I can't even finish the last of this part two because it's just annoying. Anyways, moving on to a new I guess Mill Sim is the best way of saying xFi is out in early access and it it's got like a, it's like a multiplayer mills sim extraction. You're up against just. Like a handful of people against a handful of people, and it's, it looks interesting, but I just don't have enough friends to actually play this, so I'm not even gonna try. But it does look interesting and I'm actually interested in it. If I had friends. If I had friends. No I do have friends, but friends that actually play the game. I don't have or play games for the most part. But it looks interesting. It looks very well. Like it would be a fun, it would be a fun game with friends that were like hardcore about gaming. It would be a great time to actually play it. And if you're looking for like the next extraction mill sim type shooter, this is probably it. Like one of their main things is the bullet penetration from different types of materials, which actually looks really interesting. Like I said, if it was like a single, there was a single player component, I'd be all over it, but there's not, so I'm eh, I don't, I'm not gonna do the six day Fallujah again, where I try to play a single player before the single player campaign and I died. I died in 30 seconds. Every time I couldn't, like I would cover one spot and then they would come from behind and I'm like since I don't have a fire team with me, it's kinda hard to actually play this game. Anyways, moving on to Intel Arc B five 80 is out and it's $249, and it finally beats out the 40 60 RTX 40 60. It has 12 gigs of VRA now this time, so the eight gigs from the 40 60, but it's actually pretty decently priced for people that want a game, but don't wanna spend an arm and leg just to get a nice GPU. It is a two slaughter, so be sure you have enough room because gone are the days of the one slot. GPUs. I miss those days because I have 30 90 and that thing is a monster, and I'm annoyed. That's such a monster. They just keep on getting bigger Soon. It's just gonna be the PU is going to be your computer. It's just here's your computer, it's the GPU. It's all I just. I have to get rid of all this stuff. They don't need the CPU anymore, don't need the ram. It's just the GPU. But it should be interesting to see in the actual real test if this is actually going to be great and with XESS two, with it being close to par on what DLS says to frame generation is. It should. It should be interesting to see what the frame rates will be with games. Including like the games that are a little bit more intensive and then the games that aren't intensive, like Marvel rivals, I wouldn't say is very an intensive game, even though it is using the release Unreal Engine, it's not very intensive game because it's not supposed to be, it's supposed to be a fast-paced action shooter, third person, hero shooter game. And so there's no way for that. But I'm actually good that Intel is actually giving. Runs for its money for Nvidia, at least on the mainstream market. I know a MD still has a lot of room to catch up from. I'm hoping eventually they will be on par for the most part. For most of. Nvidia stuff except for the high end. It seems like Nvidia is going to be Reign Supreme on the high end of things because a M D's not gonna be doing anymore. I don't know if Intel's gonna be doing it. It's is. It's a big risk and gamble when you do high end and market GPUs 'cause it has to be really good and it has to stack up really well against Nvidia. Alright, moving on to my. A review of Marvel rivals. It is four coffee cups out of five or four outta five stars, whichever one you want to, you wanna do it and man, it is addictive. I don't know why it's so addictive, but it's addictive. Just the heroes, the different things you can do, the different strats you can do. Like it is a fun romp. Even if you play the same maps over and over, it doesn't feel like a chore yet. Just give it a few years and it may actually eventually turn into Overwatch, but there are hundreds of thousands of players playing this game. You can get for at least quick play, you can get in two seconds. It is quick. You push that start button and in two seconds you are in a game and that's great. The hero team, ups from the different heroes. If you team up, you get either extra stats or extra abilities is great. I think that's actually a really good like synergy between it and figuring out how to do it like tho and cap together is a fun like way of bowling people down. That's fun. Moon night is ridiculously fun. Maybe not all the best all the time. Storm is actually a really powerful one, actually, I think a little better than Ironman. Wolverine. Now that is a really great hero that people are sleeping on. I just don't think we understand how to play 'em yet. But if there is a two tank lineup on there you go for the tanks, you will own those tanks because those tanks have no choice, especially if you kinda go in and kidnap them and then just do your like claw thing. And then his alt is actually really powerful if you know how to use it. It's bringing someone up and slamming down a bunch of other people and you can basically eliminate a bunch of people. I figured out eventually how to play Thor and how to use his alt real effectively. You just really go in, try to do as much damage as you can, and then pop girl and then. Basically use it on Squishies because it, it will like shred squishies pretty good. Tanks, not so much. Unless they're low, then it's actually a lot easier. But, or if you're trying to escape. But I would not use that as escape method because it's really slow. Hella is really powerful and annoying. Hawkeye is super annoying but powerful. Cloak and Dagger is an interesting duo. It's got like it. It's different from like even Overwatch. I mean it's got a little bit of Moira when it's cloaked, but Dagger, it's it's a different thing. You can do a lot of healing output. You can do a lot of damage if you know how to play that character. Really good character, especially teamed up with Moon Night. And then moon Night gets like a bubble stealth ability. So it's really good. Penny is good and annoying. She's like the May I call her. I'm now calling her the May of Marvel rivals. And yeah, we all need to watch out for those minds being laid down at the beginning of the round because they're starting to do that. And yeah, be aware Cap is fun. A lot of the tanks are actually pretty fun. Strange is just powerful. So it may not be good or bad. My needle's, funnyish Ironman's good if no one's looking to shoot you, it, it's just a fun thing. I'm still trying to figure out iron, fist, slops. Just really good if you know how to play and you can get a lot of really great kills each. Like hands down is what Overwatch should have been. And Overwatch lost it because Blizzard just didn't know what to do with the game. Unfortunately, they tried several different things and they're going back to six V six, but they still just didn't, don't know what to do with the game. So if you're looking for your next hero shooter and you haven't tried out Marvel rivals, hey, why haven't you, and B, you should try out Marvel rivals. It is hands down. One of the best hero shooters that we have in recent times. I'm sorry, but I don't play Overwatch anymore. I only play, I only reinstall just to play the old nostalgia things, and that's really about it. I know they're going back to six feet six, and they're doing experimentals, but this one's better. Be honest with you. It's so much better. Some of the heroes are a little overpowered and apparently now in rank, especially in higher ranks, there are bands you can ban heroes, which I guess is fine, but I wish they would wait until more characters out. I know they're gonna make more characters 'cause it's already doing pretty well. Oh, and the monetizations actually really good. You actually get all the heroes. Yeah. You don't have to buy heroes looking at you. Watch and Star Wars Hunters. I haven't played that one in a while. It was, that was a fun game too. But man, Zenga, seriously, your monetization sucks. Hey, new hero. Hey, you have to buy it. Like really? I have to buy it. Yeah. Okay. I'm not gonna play this very much anymore anyways. Highly recommend it. One of the top 10 games of two thou of 2024 is this one. I would say it's in the top five. Wouldn't say it's number one, but it's in the top five. It is definitely in the top five of my list, which eventually at the end of this month, I will be going on the top 10 list of 2024, but right now is a fun game, is stellar game and you should try it. You will not be disappointed if you love hero shooters. If you do not love this type of fast-paced hero shooters, you will hate this game like no other, but. It's great fun. It's great fun, regardless of the people that get mad at you. It's fun.
