Amazon is shaking things up by relaunching its Luna cloud gaming service for Prime subscribers, but don’t get too excited just yet—if your internet connection is as reliable as a flip phone in a hurricane, you might want to sit this one out. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Game Pass is taking a nosedive in value as they decide that $30 a month is the sweet spot for a subscription that used to feel more like a steal. Oh, and Ubisoft has thrown in the towel on their old brand, rebranding to Vantage Studios while juggling layoffs like a circus act—because, you know, nothing says “we care about our employees” quite like axing their jobs. Speaking of layoffs, Funcom is also jumping on the bandwagon, cutting staff despite having a million-seller with Dune Awakening. And then there’s EA, who just decided that going private is the solution to their sea of financial troubles—because who wouldn’t want to drown in a $20 billion debt, right? Buckle up, folks; the gaming industry is a wild ride this week.
Takeaways:
- Amazon Luna is getting a makeover, combining it with Prime subscriptions, which is a refreshing twist.
- Microsoft's Game Pass is now more expensive and less appealing, turning it into a questionable investment for gamers.

And welcome to a new episode of Digital Coffee Gaming Brew.
Speaker AAnd I'm your host Brett Dyster.
Speaker AAnd this week we're going to be talking about Amazon relaunching Amazon Luna Xbox.
Speaker AWell, they really stepped in it with their Game Pass subscription, which isn't making anybody happy.
Speaker AAlso, Ubisoft is changing the name of their new subsidiary to Vantage Studios.
Speaker AAnd what that's going to be a part of Funcom and Starbreeze Layoffs.
Speaker ABecause it's the gaming industry, there's always layoffs, but it seems like a lot.
Speaker ABattlefield 6 stats, we're going to see how much the pre orders have actually sold and then more about the Game Pass and the season one as well.
Speaker AMarvel Rivals season 4.5.
Speaker AAnd then we're going to be talking about the EA buyout because I didn't really get a chance to talk about it because well, it happened after I recorded this or last week I should say.
Speaker ASo we talking about that, what it actually means and why you need to actually understand the whole implication of it.
Speaker AIs it good, is it bad?
Speaker AShould we really care that much?
Speaker ABut let's get on with the show.
Speaker AMmm, that's good.
Speaker AAll right.
Speaker AI hope you're having a fantastic weekend.
Speaker ABut first off is Amazon is relaunching its Amazon Luna service later this year.
Speaker AThe relaunch will feature a new design and new features.
Speaker ARotating library of games will be available to Amazon prime subscribers through Luna's cloud service.
Speaker ANow this was made on a post on their Amazon game site.
Speaker ASo basically what this is going to be is that if you're a Prime user, you can actually use Amazon Luna.
Speaker ABefore, when it first came out, there was a separate subscription for this and then there was your Prime.
Speaker ASo if you wanted to use Amazon Luna, you had to do a separate subscription for it.
Speaker AThis time around they're merging it together.
Speaker AAnd with prime users you don't actually have to buy another separate subscription.
Speaker AUnlike let's say we when you're watching a TV show on Amazon prime and you have to upgrade to get no ads, very annoying.
Speaker ABut this one you don't have to.
Speaker AThis is actually the reverse of what Microsoft is doing with Game Pass, which is a good thing if you like Luna.
Speaker AI really don't care about Luna, so it doesn't really matter to me if they have some good games, I may try it out.
Speaker ABut unless you have really good Internet, it doesn't really matter because you have to have that type of, type of no latency thing.
Speaker AAnd if you don't have good Internet.
Speaker AIt doesn't really matter how good the game looks, it's just not going to be great at all.
Speaker ABut it is a good sign that Amazon is actually listening, providing feedback and providing extra value for the prime subscription than what Microsoft has done, which we'll be talking about soon.
Speaker ASo good news for Amazon Primers, prime users and it's going to be, well, unfortunate news for Microsoft Game Pass and Xbox fans in general.
Speaker AWhich leads me hint to Microsoft has revamped their tier of Game Pass so the ultimate, which was priced at $20 a month, is going to be $30 a month.
Speaker AUltimate is the only tier that provides day one access to new games, including the Outer Worlds 2 and Call of Duty Black Ops 7.
Speaker AThe ultimate tier now includes access to Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft plus Classic.
Speaker AThe Game Pass standard has been renamed to Premium and is priced at $15 a month now, including PC games.
Speaker AThe new first party games will be added to Premium within a year of their launch, excluding Call of Duty titles.
Speaker APremium is not for you if you love Call of Duty and then the Xbox game Pass Core will just be called Essential and still be priced at $10 per month, primarily offering access to online multiplayer.
Speaker AThe price hike is presented by Microsoft as reflecting expanding catalog and new benefits and it's actually not going very well for them.
Speaker ANow I will caveat.
Speaker AYou can actually get the PC subscription service, which is about 1650amonth, and play Call of Duty Black Ops 7 on your PC for the early access beta, which is probably the best price for all of this if you have a PC.
Speaker AIf you don't, none of this is a good price.
Speaker AThis is actually not a good look for them at all.
Speaker AThey kind of just hurt themselves in the Game Pass as being a low cost alternative to Netflix.
Speaker ANow it's more expensive than Netflix and you really don't get that much value of it I mean, unless you're playing Fortnite, which I don't do.
Speaker AUnless you care about the Ubisoft plus Classic catalog, which, okay, it really isn't that great of a deal anymore to be honest.
Speaker AThat's why a lot of people have decided to unsubscribe to it because there is no reason to actually get this anymore.
Speaker AYou might as well just buy the games that you want flat out because it'll be cheaper in the long run than doing this now for PC.
Speaker AIt's actually not a bad deal, but that's for now because we don't know how much this is going to raise too.
Speaker ASo for now I would stick with the Xbox Game Pass PC side of it because it's still under $20 a month.
Speaker ASo you're still getting a pretty decent deal and you can actually play right now Call of duty Black Ops 7 early access beta.
Speaker AThat is the only best way of doing it that you don't have to.
Speaker AIt's about half the cost, a little over.
Speaker AIt's a little under half the cost of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Speaker ABut the ultimate is only a good deal if you actually use everything.
Speaker AAnd if you don't, it's really expensive.
Speaker AAnd I don't really understand why they just upped it $10 a month.
Speaker ALike they keep the video that came out says we're listening to feedback.
Speaker AI'm like, so you listen to feedback and the feedback told you that we want it more expensive.
Speaker ANobody said that.
Speaker AThat's why yesterday or Wednesday was it when they actually announced this, there was a massive unsubscribe to Game Pass.
Speaker AAnd it looks like either by just too many people doing it or by Microsoft trying to hinder people from unsubscribing that the window or the.
Speaker AOr the website was not working very well.
Speaker ABut I mean, I just don't understand the $30 a month.
Speaker AIt just doesn't make much sense to me because you're not adding that much value to it.
Speaker AIf it was like, hey, we'll give you all of the DLCs and everything with it within the game, then it would make more sense if we add day one releases for EA and Ubisoft makes more sense, but it doesn't make any sense when it's kind of a, here's some stuff.
Speaker ANot everybody likes this, but this just kind of quote unquote adds value.
Speaker ASo they're in a heap of trouble.
Speaker AAnd I don't think they understand how terribly they messed up on this one.
Speaker AI get that buying Activision Blizzard was expensive, but don't always put it on the customer.
Speaker ASometimes you got to eat the cost a little bit.
Speaker AAnd I don't think they want.
Speaker AThey aren't willing to eat the cost because they don't want to upset the shareholders.
Speaker ABut if you piss off the customers too much, then the shareholders are going to be mad anyways.
Speaker ASo they're in a very precarious thing that I don't think they know how to get out of.
Speaker AExcept they might have to just keep the names but bring down price again.
Speaker AThat's the only way it's going to work.
Speaker AI don't think they're going to do that.
Speaker ABut that would be the smart move.
Speaker AAll right, moving on.
Speaker AUbisoft has established a new subsidiary named Vantage Studios, which is part funded by Tencent.
Speaker AVantage Studios will manage Ubisoft major franchises including Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and the company is structured to to include multiple internal studios with a total of 2300 employees located in various cities including Montreal, Quebec, Sophia, Barcelona, Sherbrooke and Sanui.
Speaker AThe aim of Vantage Studios is to allow individual teams to make decisions based on industry trends and audience preference.
Speaker AThe Tencent has invested 1.16 billion billion for a 25% stake in Ven Studios while remaining in an advisory role.
Speaker AThe there's two co founders, one of it is the CEO of Ubisoft, which is a little suspect.
Speaker AUbisoft Intensa announced this partnership in March of 2025 with discussions about the deal starting in January.
Speaker ARecent entries of Assassin's Creed series have performed well, but other titles like Star Wars Outlaws and Prince of Persia Lost Crown have underperformed.
Speaker AAnd this is the main crux.
Speaker AI don't know if Assassin's Creed Shadows really did perform well because to this day I've never seen an actual sales number.
Speaker AIt's only been people played game, which doesn't really make much sense to me, but that's where we're at.
Speaker AUsually when you highlight that your game sold well, you highlight the sales numbers.
Speaker AYou don't highlight the amount of people played because that, that doesn't really showcase anything.
Speaker ABut this is where we're at so far.
Speaker AIt's a shame because Prince of Persia Lost Crown was pretty good.
Speaker AThe Prince of Persia 2D side scroller was actually a really good game.
Speaker AStar Wars Outlaws not so good.
Speaker AThere were some interesting things like I played because I got a massive deal on it, but it just wasn't good.
Speaker ALike I understand that you could knock out a stormtrooper, but you can't move the body.
Speaker ASo you knock it out and there it is.
Speaker AAnd I'm like, you guys made Assassin's Creed right?
Speaker AThere is a way to move bodies, right?
Speaker ALike it was.
Speaker AThere were some weird design philosophies that just didn't make sense.
Speaker AAnd then the final update finally allowed you to shoot on the on your speeder bike, which when it first came out you couldn't do it.
Speaker AYou had to do that little like power up where you can lock onto like three or five different people and destroy them.
Speaker AAnd I was like, why can't I just shoot?
Speaker AThere was a lot of weird things.
Speaker ASo and then the, the character model of the lead Protagonist just looked like a cross between a feminized, like a female and a male.
Speaker AIt looked weird, it didn't look natural.
Speaker ASo there were, there was a lot of issues with it.
Speaker ASo I get it, they're a business and they're trying to save their business.
Speaker ABut you could have saved your business without being weird about it.
Speaker ABut this is where we're at, so I'm not too hopeful about this.
Speaker ABut it should be interesting to see what they come up with because the last Far Cry was not good.
Speaker AI. I finally played it and beat it and it was very annoying to play.
Speaker AI like Far Cry 5 better than 6, to be honest with you.
Speaker AAnd the subsequent ones were better.
Speaker AI still think Far Cry and Far Cry 2 were probably the two best of the series because it was 2 especially was very interesting game.
Speaker A3 was good, 4 was okay, 5 was good, and then 6 was just not good at all.
Speaker AThat's when like some of the weird ideologies started sprouting up into the game.
Speaker ABut that's where we're at.
Speaker AAll right.
Speaker AFuncom, the developer of Dune Awakening, has laid off undisclosed numbers of staff.
Speaker AThe announcement was made in a statement with gamers, industry biz and Dune Awakening was Funcom's biggest release in its 32 year history.
Speaker AIt launched in June, but within its first month Duno Awakening sold over 1 million copies.
Speaker ASo it's interesting that it did really, really well.
Speaker ABut layoffs.
Speaker ASo is it not really hitting that peak that they wanted to?
Speaker AI kind of started playing it, started stopped playing it a little bit.
Speaker AI need to get back into it, but I lost all my stuff so I might just have to redo it, which is fine.
Speaker AIt's not that big of a deal.
Speaker ABut it's a fun game, it's an interesting game.
Speaker AIt's very Dune like and you feel it.
Speaker ABut the combat is very much lacking in that department.
Speaker AI just, it's not very fun or engaging as I would like it, but it is more of an mmo so you kind of expect that type of thing.
Speaker AThe base building and like the atmosphere is great, but that's really what all that is good about it.
Speaker ASo should be interesting to see if they actually do anything about it or if they just do nothing about it.
Speaker ABut I mean there was a newest update for it, new DLC or expansion pack or whatever they call it.
Speaker ASo should be interesting to see how well players reacted to that one specifically.
Speaker AAll right.
Speaker AAnd more recent layoff news.
Speaker AStarbreeze has canceled its co op Dungeons and Dragons game, known Internally as Project Baxter, which was announced in 2023.
Speaker AThe cancellation will result in approximately 44 layoffs within the company.
Speaker AThe the CEO stated that the decision was difficult but necessary and aims to help return the company to positive cash flow by 2026.
Speaker AStarbreeze is shifting focus to its Payday franchise, particularly Payday 3, which is being developed into a quote unquote modern live engagement game.
Speaker AReally don't know what that means.
Speaker AIt's just a bunch of word salad, gobbly goop.
Speaker AHe also described Beatty as one of the most iconic IPS in gaming.
Speaker AWell, I don't know about that, but it is, but it is fun and it is, it does have its moments, but the most iconic, I mean you're reaching like Wolfenstein, Doom, maybe like Star wars, some of the Star wars franchises, but like iconic.
Speaker AI just don't know about that.
Speaker ALike you have to put a Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein, like Command and Conquer, Starcraft, Overwatch.
Speaker ALike I don't know if it's that level, but it could be.
Speaker AI mean it's all unfortunate, but they're really trying to focus on it.
Speaker AThe problem is, is that Payday 2 still has way more people playing the game than Payday 3, so they have a long road ahead of them and it should be very interesting to see what they do with it.
Speaker AAll right, moving on to Battlefield 6 is set to launch on October 10th and as it say there is about has received about 1.7 million pre orders.
Speaker ASo the game is projected to sell 5 million copies within the first week.
Speaker ASo that might be one of the best selling Battlefield titles we've seen so far.
Speaker AThe beta was fun, cannot deny, brought back a lot of the old school Battlefield like philosophies back because Battlefield 2042 did not do very well at all.
Speaker AI still, I mean I'm trying to go through it, but I just don't want to play the game to get the skins.
Speaker AI'm like, oh, I gotta play this game to get the skins.
Speaker AWhy?
Speaker AAnd I might have missed out on it.
Speaker ABut you know what, it's fine.
Speaker AI mean it happens.
Speaker AKind of wish the season pass was a little bit shorter, but whatever.
Speaker ALike I just, I just couldn't do it anymore.
Speaker AAfter a while I'm like, I, I can't play this game.
Speaker ALike the new map, which is really the old map of Battlefield 5 was, was fun, but I just don't have the heart for me for doing all these weird stuff to get skins but teach his own.
Speaker AAlso, News of Battlefield 6 is the season one content, so there will be about.
Speaker AEach season will consist about three monthly content updates and the first update, named Rogue Ops is scheduled for October 28th.
Speaker ASo you have 18 days to play and then the season one comes out.
Speaker AWhich is quite remarkable given that it took a while just for Battlefield 2042 to have anything.
Speaker ASo this should be interesting to see how well this is received.
Speaker ASo Rogobs will introduce Blackwell Fields map a new game mode called Strike Point.
Speaker AIs that really new?
Speaker AI feel like Strike Point was on Battlefield 1, but maybe it was a different name.
Speaker AMaybe.
Speaker AMaybe I'm off a new vehicle, new gear and weapons.
Speaker ANew Weapons include the SOR 300 SC Carbine, the GH22 Sidearm, the Mini Scout Sniper rifle, and a new low power variable optical scope.
Speaker ABlackwell Fields is set in the California Badlands and involves players combating packs, Armada double agents and attacking NATO targets.
Speaker AThe Strike Point game mode is designed for a.
Speaker ANo, it's not.
Speaker AThis is new, actually designed for a 4v4 gameplay, focusing on tactical play and realm based objectives with no response.
Speaker AInteresting.
Speaker ACould be actually an interesting gameplay mode.
Speaker AWe'll see when it actually comes out.
Speaker ABut I'm kind of excited for this because they're already out of the gate.
Speaker ASaid we already have season one ready.
Speaker AIt's coming out in 18 days.
Speaker AOnce Battlefield 6 comes out, you got new weapons, new maps, new game mode.
Speaker AHave fun.
Speaker AWay better than what, 2042.
Speaker AWhen 2042 launched, it's like, yeah, we'll fix all this stuff that we didn't actually do a good job with.
Speaker AAnd that took it feels like a year.
Speaker ASo this is already a really good sign that they know what they're doing, they have what they need to be successful.
Speaker AAnd I'm all for it, like I'm all for it to see what they produce because man, battlefield 2042, I really try to love that game, but I, I just could not love that game.
Speaker AI don't know, it was probably because I played it at launch and when you played at launch, it just really turned you off.
Speaker AI mean they turned it around, but it took a while to turn it around.
Speaker APlus with how open everything was, it just wasn't a good thing.
Speaker AAnd I mean the hovercraft scaling buildings was a little weird.
Speaker AI mean there was a lot of weird bugs, glitches that happened and I know they kept that one in the game because it really wasn't much.
Speaker ABut I mean, call downs for vehicles.
Speaker AInteresting.
Speaker ABut I would have only left it to like light transport vehicles and everything else you had to actually get at the base because it made for some frustrating things of like calling down like AA on top of a building.
Speaker AI mean, it just made it for just like rough things to do.
Speaker AAnd so I'm all in favor of what they're doing here.
Speaker AI think they actually have a good plan, seems like.
Speaker ABut we'll see.
Speaker AWe'll also see when it actually fully releases how well it's optimized.
Speaker AIt was really well optimized in the beta and that was a.
Speaker AAnd that was the newest build of the game, I'm pretty sure.
Speaker ASo I'm wondering how well it's going to be when it actually fully launches with Firestorm and with the bigger maps and finally trying the bigger maps.
Speaker AI heard they're pretty good.
Speaker AI heard Firestorm is what Firestorm was when it came out in Battlefield three and was redone in Battlefield four.
Speaker ANow we're getting in Battlefield six.
Speaker AI'm.
Speaker AI'm waiting for Caspian Border to come back again because that has already had one remaster.
Speaker AWhy not do two?
Speaker AI mean, if they want to look at some of the Battlefield 2 maps, they were pretty good.
Speaker ALook at Battlefield.
Speaker ABad Company 2 had some pretty good maps.
Speaker ALook at Battlefield 1 has some pretty good maps as well.
Speaker ASo also just do new ones too.
Speaker AI'm fine with that.
Speaker AEither way, I'm fine with it.
Speaker AAs long as you just make really good maps that flow well and you have cover for and that you have room to.
Speaker ATo maneuver as well, I'm fine with that.
Speaker AAll right, moving on to Marvel.
Speaker ARival season 4.5 launches on October 10th.
Speaker AWell, that's going to be a big day.
Speaker AThe update will introduce Daredevil as a new Duelist.
Speaker ACross platform progression support will begin with this update, but it will initially be available only to invite players.
Speaker AGeneral access to cross progression support will be available with the launch of Season five.
Speaker ASo it should be interesting to see.
Speaker AIt looks like Daredevil is going to be interesting Duelists.
Speaker AUnfortunately, it's a new duelist and not a new healer.
Speaker AI think Strategist or Vanguard, because I mean we just had a new Vanguard, but it'd be nice to have a.
Speaker ANot a new character be a duelist for a while.
Speaker AThere are a lot of duelists, but I know it's easier to make duelist than probably is to make Vanguard or Strategist.
Speaker ABut we do need more of those.
Speaker AWe do need more options for the tank and healer role because he is very much lacking in those departments.
Speaker AAnd that's unfortunate because there needs to be more of Those.
Speaker AI know we got Ultron as the last new strategist, but he was kind of like a cross between a duelist and strategist.
Speaker AHe doesn't heal as effectively as the other ones.
Speaker AAnd whatever the other one was, the tank, the vanguard, which she flies and stuff, I forget the name, but that one looks all right.
Speaker AI haven't played in a while, so should be interesting to see how well people figure all that stuff out and if it's actually going to be any good for Daredevil and if it's actually going to be an overpowered character or not.
Speaker AI mean, they always show the videos, but the videos always amplify what could or could not be.
Speaker ASo we'll see.
Speaker AI heard Thor is really, really good right now, so should be fun.
Speaker AAll right.
Speaker AAnd so main thing is going to be about EA going private.
Speaker AThat's right.
Speaker AEA has undergone a $55 billion buyout which will take the company private.
Speaker AThe deal is led by Saudi Arabia's public investment fund, private equity firm Silverlake, and Jared Kushner's investment firm, Affinity Partners.
Speaker AApproximately two thirds of the purchase price is being fronted by these entities.
Speaker AWith 20 billion being absorbed as debt on EA books, it's massive.
Speaker AThe acquisition is expected to close in the first quarter of EA's 2027 fiscal year.
Speaker AOf course, there's concerns by the media and bioware.
Speaker AApparently no one else is talking about these concerns.
Speaker ABut besides BioWare, the once renowned developer that's kind of been lambasted for the last few releases, they've done so so far, nothing's going to be unchanged.
Speaker ABut that will not remain forever because, well, first of all, 20 billion in debt for EA is not a good look.
Speaker AAnd they're going to have to figure out either to shutter some studios, let go of some studios, or.
Speaker AYeah, I mean, those really are the two options they've got.
Speaker ASo Mark Dura, a former project director and executive producer, discusses the potential impact of it.
Speaker ASo we did discuss it and he basically said that, well, BioWare shouldn't, should not be changing their very progressive views because if it does, there will be a lot of backlash.
Speaker AWell, well, first of all, Anthem failed.
Speaker AThat was your first mistake.
Speaker AThen Dragon Age, the Veil Guard spectacularly failed, and that was your little progressive game.
Speaker ASo I think you should stop with the political messaging, might help and go back to making good games again.
Speaker AThe reason why people love Dragon Age Origins, because it didn't really have that big of a political messaging.
Speaker AYes, you're always going to have some.
Speaker ANo doubt about It.
Speaker AI am not surprised that there's some.
Speaker ABut there has to be a line between how much you invest in these political messaging and how much your audience responds to it.
Speaker ANow everybody's afraid of there's gonna be less queer content.
Speaker AAnd I'm like, yes, there should be less of that because I don't want to play that.
Speaker AAnd a lot of people agree with me.
Speaker ASo Mr. Mark, as he mentioned that EA Studios have that have not released successful titles including bioware, express uncertainty about how the Saudi investment fund might influence the studio and in its investment, particularly regarding political messaging.
Speaker AHe suggested that the bio could lead to layoffs and studio closers due to EA's looming 20 billion in debt.
Speaker AOf course it will.
Speaker ABig debt.
Speaker AEA committed to its employees that there will be no immediate changes.
Speaker AOf course not.
Speaker AThe debt hasn't come in yet to jobs or teams following the $55 billion buyout, which includes again the $20 billion in debt.
Speaker ABut here's the issue.
Speaker AEA has not been doing well.
Speaker AIt started with, like I said, it started with Anthem and then it went to battlefield 2042.
Speaker ABoth massively failed.
Speaker AAnd then Dragon Age Veil Guard finally released.
Speaker AMassively failed.
Speaker AYou had three failures in like what, three or four years?
Speaker AThese are three big tent pole games.
Speaker ALike, you propped up Anthem for being like this like live service open world game where you're in mechs and it had its moments of being fun, but it had a lot of technical issues.
Speaker AYou, it was, there was no end game whatsoever really.
Speaker AIt kind of got boring after a while.
Speaker AAnd then you had Battlefield 2042, which you originally wanted to do a lot, a live service battle royale and then switch midstream to just be what Battlefield was.
Speaker AAnd then people were like, what is this?
Speaker AThis isn't Battlefield.
Speaker AThis is kind of like a knockoff Battlefield.
Speaker AAnd then again, you finally released Dragon Age Vale Guard, which was originally Dragon Age Dreadwolf, which originally was a live service game and then changed to an rpg and then kind of hodgepodge together with different design philosophies and just a spectacularly bad writing which bioware is renowned for their right or was renowned for their writing.
Speaker AAnd it seemed like you had the F team just write it and then you had to pull the Bravo, which was kind of this woke messaging behind it where people like what is this?
Speaker AAnd so yes, this is a desperate attempt for a company to save itself.
Speaker AIf you go private, then you don't have to worry about shareholders.
Speaker AYou have to worry about investment firms, which I don't know what's worse.
Speaker ABut you don't have to worry about that.
Speaker APlus, they're taking a $20 billion hit because they're investing in themselves.
Speaker ASo once that hits, then they're going to start looking at where they can cut, because they're eventually going to have to cut and they're not going to cut, really.
Speaker AThey may cut senior management, but they're probably not really going to be doing that.
Speaker AThey're going to be looking at developers and being like, okay, which ones are performing and if everything looks correct, Dice isn't going anywhere.
Speaker ARespawn isn't going anywhere.
Speaker AEven if Apex Legends isn't doing as well as it has before, it's still making a lot of money and their Star wars series is doing well.
Speaker AAnd if Battlefield does well, they aren't being touched.
Speaker ASo the only one left to really look at is is Bioware.
Speaker AAnd Bioware has not been doing well.
Speaker AI know you have Mass Effect 5, and to be honest, if I was EA, I just sell them off.
Speaker ASell them off to a private equity firm or somebody else, have them deal with it because they seem like a headache.
Speaker AA big, massive headache.
Speaker AAnd it's a shame because I used to love Bioware games.
Speaker AI played Valve, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2.
Speaker AYes, they were the first developer to bring it to computer or video games, I should say.
Speaker AI loved.
Speaker AWas it Dragon Empire?
Speaker AJade Empire?
Speaker AThe.
Speaker AThe.
Speaker AThat one I loved.
Speaker ANever Winter Nights.
Speaker AI loved Knights of Old Republic.
Speaker AI thought two had a better writing.
Speaker AObsidian actually, when it was old school, Obsidian did a really good job with the writing.
Speaker AToo bad it was cut, but it was.
Speaker AWas really.
Speaker AI thought it was better.
Speaker AI loved Dragon Age Origins 2.
Speaker AI liked because it was an interesting story.
Speaker AAnd then Inquisition was still pretty good.
Speaker AWasn't bad, but you kind of saw the quality declining probably because the talent left.
Speaker AThen you got Anthem, which, all right, that was our first mistake.
Speaker AThen you had Dragon Age Vel Guard.
Speaker AAnd I'm like, all right, I'm done.
Speaker ANo more.
Speaker ABecause I love I.
Speaker AYou can't forget Mass Effect.
Speaker AMass Effect, the original series, minus the ending of three was really, really good.
Speaker ABut that's the problem.
Speaker ALike all the good writers and everybody else left and you had the not so good talent that was prioritizing political messaging and ideology that most people don't agree with.
Speaker AAnd that was the problem.
Speaker ABut you kept on letting it go because they were successful developer that made very successful games.
Speaker AI know their MMO for Star wars didn't do as well and that might have been their first mistake.
Speaker ABut it wasn't that bad.
Speaker AWhat really hit them hard, what really made it worse was Anthem, because that's when it started all going downhill.
Speaker ASo what do you have?
Speaker AYou have a company that is bleeding money that is not doing well because they've had three failures of game that did not sell well.
Speaker ALuckily, Battlefield 6 is turning it around.
Speaker ALooks like it's going to be turning it around, but that's luckily because you had somebody specifically respawn and you gave them time to make the game that Battlefield needed.
Speaker ANot trying to fit into this Live Service thing.
Speaker AAndrew Wilson has so much to blame for all this direction that they've been trying to do because he was trying to cram in Live Service because he thought Live Service was like the next big thing.
Speaker AAnd it really wasn't.
Speaker AAnd so instead of making the games that people have grown to love, they tried to fit into Live Service and Battle Royales.
Speaker AAnd I know Battlefield 6 might have a Battle Royale, but it's still separate.
Speaker ASo they had an opportunity to sell the game and go private.
Speaker AThis is a d desperate attempt to save the company.
Speaker AThey may not say that, but it is an attempt to save the company.
Speaker AMichael Dell did it with Dell, they went public.
Speaker AI mean, went private.
Speaker AAnd he kind of brought it back as a public company, but he had to bring it back to fix things.
Speaker AThis is a way of fixing it, because it has to be fixed.
Speaker AEA is not doing well asides from their yearly sports franchises and maybe soon yearly Battlefield franchise, which I'm not looking forward to.
Speaker AThere needs to be the writing of the ship because the ship has gone off course.
Speaker ASo Bioware, you can either get on board and make sure you're making a game that people love, or you can keep on with your very progressive messaging and piss a bunch of people off.
Speaker AThat won't buy your game.
Speaker AIt is your choice.
Speaker AI forgot Mass Effect.
Speaker ANew Drama.
Speaker AThat was the other one.
Speaker ASo actually was Mass Effect Andromeda.
Speaker AThat was her first big mistake.
Speaker ATotally forgot about that one.
Speaker AYeah, A memory.
Speaker AHold it.
Speaker ABecause it was not that good.
Speaker AMass Effect and Drama, I mean, the combat was good, but it just.
Speaker AThe story was okay.
Speaker ADidn't really matter too much about what she did.
Speaker AIt was just so.
Speaker AThat one was the first because that happened after the Inquisition.
Speaker AAnd then it was Anthem and then it was Veil Card.
Speaker ASo they had three Miss misses.
Speaker AI mean, Andromeda was salvageable, but they just never really salvaged it because EA's thing is up.
Speaker ADidn't work out.
Speaker ALet's try to fix it and Then we're done.
Speaker AExcept for Anthem because we never allowed it to be fixed.
Speaker ASo if you're all worried about it, well yeah, you should be worried because again they're going to have cuts, no doubt about that.
Speaker AIt's just not going to hit until probably the end of the financial year for them in 2027.
Speaker AThey're more than likely going to get rid of your most toxic brands or the most toxic game franchises that don't work.
Speaker AEither completely gone or they're going to completely retool it.
Speaker AI propose you reboot Dragon Age.
Speaker AStart from.
Speaker AStart from Origins, figure out what that did so well and then build off from that.
Speaker ACompletely redo it because it just needs a reboot now.
Speaker ABill Guard just was not it.
Speaker ASo it just needs a complete and utter reboot of the entire franchise.
Speaker AGo back to Origins, see what you did.
Speaker AJust remake that one.
Speaker ASee what you did well.
Speaker ASee and look at what Boulders Gate 3 did so well and Expedition 33 did.
Speaker AAnd figure out a way of making a really successful RPG because there's still a lot of people that love playing these games.
Speaker AAnd then look your Mass Effect franchise.
Speaker ALook at intact.
Speaker AMaybe even figure out if you can actually reboot Andromeda.
Speaker ADon't think you can.
Speaker AI think that's just kind of a dead thing.
Speaker ABut figure out that franchise.
Speaker ALook at the other franchises that BioWare has done.
Speaker AI would probably just not touch Anthem at all.
Speaker ABut focus on, for Bioware, focus on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
Speaker AThis probably should be the two primary franchises they could, they should work on.
Speaker AI don't care if EA just didn't have any belief in it.
Speaker AThere is room for both to grow then for Dice Battlefield for Respawn.
Speaker AI really wish they would bring Titanfall, but I don't think we're ever gonna get a Titanfall to be honest with you.
Speaker AWhich is a shame because it's a really good franchise.
Speaker AFocus on Apex Legends, focus on Star wars games.
Speaker AEventually that's gonna end because it's only gonna really be a three game type of thing.
Speaker AFocus on ex, like exploratory other type of games.
Speaker ABut yeah, that's a, that's what it should do.
Speaker ALook at the strategies games, look at the genre of it.
Speaker ASee if you can actually reboot Command Conquer.
Speaker AIt's not a bad franchise to reboot people.
Speaker APeople like me love Command Conquer.
Speaker ASo look at that.
Speaker ASee if you can do anything with it.
Speaker AJust look at your old franchise.
Speaker AYou got the Syndicate.
Speaker AI mean you have a lot of good storied franchises that you should look again and see what you could do with them because you have a lot of them.
Speaker AJust don't.
Speaker AJust stop creating and don't stop trying to do it.
Speaker AI know you have the sims, but I don't care about the sims.
Speaker AIt's probably popular, but I still don't care about it.
Speaker AAnyways, we should all be concerned because this is a major deal and I hope they write the ship.
Speaker AIf not, well, it's been a good run ea.
Speaker AAnyways, what do you think about the EA buyout or even the game pass pricing changes?
