Congress Calls CEOs: Is Gaming the New Political Football?

Congress Calls CEOs: Is Gaming the New Political Football?

Alright, so let's dive into the chaos that is this week’s episode. We’re kicking things off by dishing out some major shade on Borderlands 4, which, surprise surprise, is more of a dumpster fire than a game right now. We’re also taking a moment to chat about Dying Light's latest drop and how I’m pretty sure it’s still downloading while I’m ranting here. Then, hold onto your mousepads, because we’re dissecting Microsoft’s new AI creep—Gaming Copilot—which sounds like it’s trying way too hard to be “helpful” instead of just letting us game in peace. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any wilder, we’re throwing in a spicy convo about how Congress wants to haul in the CEOs of Steam, Discord, and Twitch for some good ol’ fashioned finger-pointing over online radicalization. Spoiler alert: it’s a wild ride full of sarcasm and a healthy dose of reality checks. So, grab your snacks and settle in, 'cause we’re about to spill some serious gaming tea!

Takeaways:

  • Dying Light's latest update is dropping soon, and I can't wait to dive into it, even if my download speed is slower than a turtle on sedatives.

  • Borderlands 4 is getting roasted for being about as optimized as a brick; seriously, why can't developers get their act together these days?

  • Microsoft's Gaming Copilot is creeping into our lives like that one friend who overstays their welcome; some features could be useful, but do we really need an AI gaming coach?

  • Steam is killing support for Windows 10 32-bit, and honestly, if you're still on that, what rock have you been living under for the past decade?

  • No Man's Sky is getting a new patch that makes ship customization easier, which is a huge deal because nobody wants to spend an eternity painting their spaceship one-sided at a time.

  • Congress is dragging in big tech CEOs to talk about online radicalization, and I'm just here wondering if they realize most of us just want to game without the drama.

Companies mentioned in this episode:

  • Gearbox

  • Steam

  • Microsoft

  • Corsair

  • No Man's Sky

  • Borderlands

  • Discord

  • Reddit

  • Twitch

  • Valve

Speaker A

And welcome to a new episode of Digital Coffee Gaming Brew.

Speaker A

And I'm your host Brett Dyster.

Speaker A

And this week we're gonna be talking about Dying Light the Beast came out.

Speaker A

Currently downloading it right now, but I'll eventually be playing it.

Speaker A

I will be talking about Borlands 4 because apparently CEO of Gearbox cannot stop talking and making a fool out of himself.

Speaker A

Also be talking about the support being gone from steam with Windows 10.32bit.

Speaker A

We also be talking about Microsoft and the AI creep into gaming with Copilot and going to talk about no Man's Sky's new patch for painting, which is kind of a game changer on that one.

Speaker A

Corsair's new mouse they just released this week.

Speaker A

And going to be talking about the basically Congress wanting to call in the CEO of Steam, the CEO of Discord, CEO of Reddit, and the CEO of Twitch.

Speaker A

And more of an uplifting one than yesterday, how we should talk to each other face to face, not on the Internet, but face to face.

Speaker A

And why it's actually healthy for us to actually understand each other and not just rage and pour on the salt as we do as gamers.

Speaker A

But let's get home with the show.

Speaker A

That's good.

Speaker A

All right, I hope you guys are having a fantastic Friday, but first off is Valve has announced that Steve Steam will end support for Systems running Windows 10.32bit starting January 1, 2026.

Speaker A

Users are encouraged to upgrade to the 64bit version of Windows 10 32bit.

Speaker A

Games will continue to function and currently installed Steam clients will still operate for a limited time, but will not receive updates after the support cutoff.

Speaker A

The lack of updates include security updates, technical support for older operating systems.

Speaker A

According to Valve, Windows 10.32bit is currently in use only on 0.01% of systems reported through the Steam Hardware survey.

Speaker A

Further versions of Steam will only run on 64 bit versions of Windows.

Speaker A

So those that have still not actually upgraded to 64 bit version of Windows, I don't know what you're really waiting for.

Speaker A

You should have done a little while ago.

Speaker A

But hey, maybe you're running a really old system and you're just playing the old school games.

Speaker A

Just upgrade your RAM and making sure you have enough RAM to run the 64 bit version.

Speaker A

But for most of us, yeah, we're running the 64 bit version of it, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

Speaker A

But for those, unfortunately you're going to have to get find a Windows 10 version that is 64 bit or upgrade to Windows 11 if you really want to or wait for the new version of Windows.

Speaker A

Hopefully that will be better than what this Windows is.

Speaker A

Yes, it has gotten better, but I've had to use Starduck products just to make it better because it's not that good.

Speaker A

To be honest with you, I'm not really that impressed with Windows 11.

Speaker A

Even when it launched it wasn't great.

Speaker A

But if you can find a Windows 1064 bit version, by all means find one so you can still get continued support.

Speaker A

We'll see how long that one lasts.

Speaker A

But yeah, 32 bit is going the way of the dodo, as it should, because it hasn't really been a big thing in a very long time.

Speaker A

All right, so Microsoft is rolling out Gaming Copilot features to all Windows 11 users as of September 18, 2025.

Speaker A

The initial testing of Gaming Copilot began a month prior and was limited to certain markets.

Speaker A

The release of Gaming Copilot has regional support everywhere except mainland China.

Speaker A

The Gaming Copilot will be available in the Xbox mobile app next month for both Apple and Android devices.

Speaker A

The feature will be integrated as a widget inside of the game bar on Windows 11.

Speaker A

Gaming Copilot includes a voice mode for interaction without need to exit a game.

Speaker A

It can utilize game screenshot to answer questions and provide game recommendations as well as show recent Xbox achievements.

Speaker A

Microsoft plans to optimize Gaming Copilot for its upcoming Xbox ally handheld devices and aims to bring it to Xbox Console in the near future.

Speaker A

The long term goal for Gaming Copilot is to evolve into an AI gaming coach, which we don't need, which it always comes up with the the AI creep or the AI slope.

Speaker A

Some of it could be useful.

Speaker A

Telling it to make screenshots, telling it to record, maybe even asking it for recommendations for helping get better performances are things that we actually could need.

Speaker A

The rest of it, not so much.

Speaker A

I don't really need an AI gaming coach, don't really need any of that other stuff.

Speaker A

So if you are running Windows 11 you could actually use it.

Speaker A

And I do think some of the features are useful.

Speaker A

Not every one of those features but you know it's Microsoft and let's throw in everything as AI everywhere and see where it lands.

Speaker A

Of course we all know that the catastrophe that was Cortana that actually never really took off.

Speaker A

Let's see, hope that this is actually a better implementation than Cortana was because that did not do very well.

Speaker A

That was basically thrown out after several months of being dead last in the AI voice.

Speaker A

Not even AI voice, just the machine learning voice assistants, because they weren't.

Speaker A

It was a very rudimentary AI system called machine learning.

Speaker A

But like I said, some of it sounds useful, the rest of it does not sound that useful.

Speaker A

Now if you want questions for anything or if you're stuck on something that could actually be useful as well.

Speaker A

But like I said, very specific tasks that make it a tool to help you is good.

Speaker A

Making AI coach for stuff isn't really going to be great, and since AI will just tell you everything you want to hear and it's a yes man, I don't really want it or need it and I'm pretty sure a lot of gamers don't want it or need it.

Speaker A

So turn it off if you can because Copilot is going to be everywhere and we're not really going to be able to do anything about it except for uninstalling it or turning it off is probably the best option for all of us.

Speaker A

Plus we got an via Shadowplay that usually works most of the time we have Elgato Stream deck which we can actually use it for one click push of a button.

Speaker A

So I don't have to worry about any of that stuff.

Speaker A

We have options for this.

Speaker A

This is not one of those options that is really helpful for the most part, but we will see how well it's implemented.

Speaker A

I won't be downloading on my mobile devices, so have at it if you really care about it.

Speaker A

All right.

Speaker A

Moving on to no Man's sky has released a new patch that improves ship customization, allowing players to apply color material changes to all parts of a Corvette simultaneously.

Speaker A

The patch includes fixes for issues related to the Corvette ship class, such as ensuring they spawn correctly in players bases after teleporting in Fixing visibility bugs for players within hidden Corvettes A recent Voyager update has been described by developer as significant enough to require a reworking of the game.

Speaker A

The game has recently experienced its best performance since launch.

Speaker A

Tribute to the Updates players have expressed excitement about the new customization options and overall improvements.

Speaker A

So what, this basically is more of a template for like the actual painting on the ship because prior to that you had to go like one by one by one, which is very tedious to do this and so this just helps automate that so you don't actually have to keep on doing it one by one by one.

Speaker A

But this customization has had a renewed interest in playing no Man's Skies because you can create a home.

Speaker A

You can create a Nokia Corvette, Nokia Phone Corvette, or a Thomas the Tank Engine Corvette.

Speaker A

You can really create anything.

Speaker A

I'm pretty sure people are trying to figure out how to do like a Starship Enterprise or any one of the Star wars type of Corvettes.

Speaker A

So we'll see what kind of interesting things people come up with with no Man's Sky.

Speaker A

But this is probably one of the best games you can get for a fixed price for very, very good updates that it has produced over the years.

Speaker A

Like no other game company I know of has produced this many updates for a fixed one time price.

Speaker A

Usually it is a DLC and you have to keep on upgrading the DLC to get what you need.

Speaker A

But this time you really don't need it.

Speaker A

Just one price and you get all these upgrades which is fantastic.

Speaker A

Which helps with the price of getting other games.

Speaker A

And it's just one of those games you can play almost indefinitely.

Speaker A

From the updates that I have done, it's quite impressive what they've done with the game that everybody hated in the beginning and now most people actually love this game or majority of people actually love this game.

Speaker A

It's quite interesting to see what they're going to do next and where they're going to move forward to next while they make their new game as well.

Speaker A

Which will be interesting to see how they make their new game and what the new game will also offer gamers.

Speaker A

All right, so Corsair has just announced a new mouse called the Sabre V2 Pro ultralight wireless gaming mouse.

Speaker A

The mouse weighs 36 grams which is not very much and making the lightest mouse produced by Corsair.

Speaker A

It features 8,000 Hz polling rate in both wired and wireless modes.

Speaker A

The mouse is equipped with Corsair Marksman S Sensor which offers 33,000 DPI and high resolution accuracy.

Speaker A

The product is targeted towards professional esports athletes and competitive FPS gamers.

Speaker A

So if you're looking for a mouse that's basically a hundred dollars for the wireless version, no lights, which is great and 70 hours of battery life.

Speaker A

This probably is something good for you.

Speaker A

There's also some streamers that will give you a minor discount.

Speaker A

That makes it basically under a hundred dollars for the wireless version, which is really good.

Speaker A

So this is pretty good.

Speaker A

They also have the this mouse.

Speaker A

You don't actually need iClue to actually run it.

Speaker A

You can run it through their web portal and you can also do the settings through there.

Speaker A

So that's actually a nice touch that you don't actually have to use ICLUE for this.

Speaker A

Now I'm apolitical about which one you use.

Speaker A

If you live Razer Go.

Speaker A

That bloody Corsair.

Speaker A

All the other plethoras that I can't Logitech, all the other ones I can't think of, but there's a plethora of them as well.

Speaker A

Then go after that.

Speaker A

But this is not a bad idea for it.

Speaker A

And it has no lights, which makes the battery life last way longer than the ones with lights, because the one with lights, it always cuts it in half because you're lighting it, you're also using it.

Speaker A

But.

Speaker A

So this just helps with keeping it longer.

Speaker A

And it.

Speaker A

And I just checked for the M75 wireless one, it actually lasts longer.

Speaker A

Battery life, too.

Speaker A

That one lasts about.

Speaker A

And that's the air.

Speaker A

The one without the lights, about 30 hours.

Speaker A

35 hours.

Speaker A

So you get quite significant boost in how long you can use it.

Speaker A

So maybe look in the market for a new mouse and you really like FPS games.

Speaker A

This might be the actual one for you.

Speaker A

Or you wait for the Logitech one that they're apparently releasing as well, and you check out which one's the best for you.

Speaker A

I mean, mice are very subjective on which one's the quote, unquote best.

Speaker A

But a lot of times the company that you like and you stick with is probably the best one.

Speaker A

I really can't tell you specifically which one's gonna be the best one for you.

Speaker A

All right, so Borderlands 4 came out and, oh, boy, were we not happy about this game or really just how unoptimized it was?

Speaker A

And the funny part is, a couple episodes ago, I said that developers need to actually focus on optimization and not just, hey, we have dlss, we have ssr, we have xess.

Speaker A

That doesn't really help us because a lot of times that really isn't optimizing.

Speaker A

That's taking a shortcut to optimization.

Speaker A

And it usually doesn't work out very well.

Speaker A

You optimize first and then you utilize those technologies to optimize further, but it's not a stop gap.

Speaker A

And so it has unfortunately not been very good for gearbox or 2k on that front, because a lot of gamers are not happy with Borderlands 4 and how unoptimized and just terrible it actually is.

Speaker A

So it's funny because you might as well just stick with Borderlands 3, because at least that's optimized.

Speaker A

You can actually run it well and you can actually play it without modern GPUs and even modern GPUs.

Speaker A

A lot of player gamers are experiencing issues with it.

Speaker A

So Randy Pitchford apparently has decided to say, hey, well, if you don't like it.

Speaker A

Well, you can always just get a refund from Steam.

Speaker A

Now, I always said this in a While ago, when Battlefield 5 came out, they said the same thing.

Speaker A

And I'm like, do not tell your customers to get a refund or don't buy it.

Speaker A

They will do that and it doesn't help your sales.

Speaker A

Like, stop telling people to do something that will negatively impact your business.

Speaker A

Say, we're on it, we are sorry, we should have done better.

Speaker A

Put it on you.

Speaker A

Do not put it on the gamer or the customer.

Speaker A

Because guess what's going to happen?

Speaker A

They're going to blame it on you and then they will get the refund and then they will never come back.

Speaker A

It's a lot harder to gain customers than it is to keep the ones you already have.

Speaker A

So please stop, Randy, stop tweeting for a while.

Speaker A

You don't help the situation.

Speaker A

You are not helping the situation.

Speaker A

You continue to not help the situation.

Speaker A

And people face palm every time you tweet because you keep on saying how optimized your game is when people like, it's not optimized.

Speaker A

Battlefield 6 is optimized.

Speaker A

I am quite surprised on how optimized Battlefield 6 is.

Speaker A

Yours is not.

Speaker A

Looks like almost towards the end, you guys started to optimize it.

Speaker A

Instead of going through each development cycle and optimizing it that way, that's what you should have done.

Speaker A

What you did instead is that towards the end you're like, oh, we got to optimize this.

Speaker A

And like, ah, we got dlss, we got fsr, we got xess.

Speaker A

That will help us.

Speaker A

And it doesn't.

Speaker A

It didn't work.

Speaker A

Gamers are not happy with you right now.

Speaker A

Instead, you keep on tweeting, blaming the gamers, saying how it's a modern marvel that a game actually like this actually works.

Speaker A

What are you talking about?

Speaker A

It's a game.

Speaker A

It's not something revolutionary at all.

Speaker A

So please, for the love of God, stop tweeting.

Speaker A

Stop it.

Speaker A

Stop, stop, stop.

Speaker A

It's not working.

Speaker A

It's not helping.

Speaker A

Don't tell your customers.

Speaker A

If you don't like it, get a refund.

Speaker A

Just like Dice should.

Speaker A

Never told their customers when Battlefield 5 was new.

Speaker A

If you don't like it, don't buy it.

Speaker A

Because guess what they're going to do?

Speaker A

Get a refund and not buy it.

Speaker A

It's as simple as that.

Speaker A

I do not understand why they keep on doing this.

Speaker A

Because people are having issues with this.

Speaker A

They don't like it that it's unoptimized and you keep on making weird analogies.

Speaker A

Like compare the game optimization to not expecting a Ferrari engine to perform well in a monster truck.

Speaker A

I don't really understand what that means.

Speaker A

You're using the Unreal Engine.

Speaker A

It's not really a Ferrari engine, really.

Speaker A

It's kind of like getting a Honda.

Speaker A

Really.

Speaker A

I don't understand these weird analogies.

Speaker A

And you seriously need to stop because people are having issues.

Speaker A

They don't like the performance.

Speaker A

And it seems like the longer you play the game, the worse the performance gets, which is never a good sign either.

Speaker A

I know that there's a patch coming out, but the optimization should have been happening in the beginning, in the middle, and in the end to make sure it was optimized, because that's how you're going to get the game to work well.

Speaker A

That's how you're not going to piss gamers off because you already pissed gamers off.

Speaker A

I was really on the fence of really getting it because it just some of the comments you made, I'm like, I don't think this is going to be a great game.

Speaker A

And it really hasn't been.

Speaker A

I don't want to have to have a headache.

Speaker A

I want to figure out in the options what to turn off, what to turn on, what's okay, what's not okay.

Speaker A

That.

Speaker A

That's just annoying.

Speaker A

It's really annoying.

Speaker A

So please stop talking.

Speaker A

All right.

Speaker A

So in the aftermath of the Charlie Kirk assassination, Congress has decided from Congressman James Comer that the chair of the U.S. house Oversight and Government Reform Committee invites Gabe Newell, the CEO of Discord.

Speaker A

I can't say his name.

Speaker A

Dan clancy of the CEO of Twitch and Steve Hoffman, the CEO of Reddit, to testify at a hearing on October 8th.

Speaker A

The hearing will focus on radicalization of online forums, users and politically motivated attacks on violence.

Speaker A

The invitation is connected to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist.

Speaker A

The reporter said far right.

Speaker A

He wasn't far right.

Speaker A

He was actually very middle on the road, which occurred on September 10.

Speaker A

A discourse spokesman stated that Tyler Robinson, charged with Kirk's murder, took responsibility for the shooting in a Discord server shortly after it happened.

Speaker A

And other Independence Journal Attain records showing that the account linked to Robinson has primarily been apolitical about video games, which is true, but there's also a lot of political stuff and a lot of antifa stuff and a lot of other stuff on Discord servers that would refute that.

Speaker A

They say there's no evidence suggests that Robinson was radicalized by online platforms.

Speaker A

Yeah, there's a lot of it just go on Reddit Reddit has, and this is a Gallup poll and I'll pull it up and put it on the show.

Speaker A

Notes for you is very left.

Speaker A

The only one that's actually pretty much 5050 is X. YouTube is conservative, oddly enough.

Speaker A

Facebook is a little bit more conservative enough, but Reddit is very left.

Speaker A

You're you.

Speaker A

This is the part where these journalists.

Speaker A

You cannot tell me that there was no radicalization on any of these platforms whatsoever.

Speaker A

You haven't been to all the Discord servers, you haven't seen all the Steam groups and forums.

Speaker A

You cannot tell me that there is nothing out there because I know you didn't do your research because I could probably find it pretty easily in about five minutes on Reddit.

Speaker A

It's not hard.

Speaker A

There was an Orange county one and people were talking about there was a vigil for Charlie Clark and called it far right white supremacist.

Speaker A

And I wasn't even looking.

Speaker A

It just popped up on my feed.

Speaker A

Do not tell me journalists, that there is no connection.

Speaker A

There are connections, it's not hard to find them.

Speaker A

I really wish journalists would do their journalistic work and lay low on the bias.

Speaker A

If there's connections, you have to state the connections.

Speaker A

There are some connections to it.

Speaker A

Yes.

Speaker A

We gamers get a little testy and a hottie when we play games and I'm fine with that.

Speaker A

Now, do video games cause this horrific violence?

Speaker A

I would say the majority of gamers.

Speaker A

No.

Speaker A

Are there a few?

Speaker A

Yes.

Speaker A

Is it because of gaming specifically?

Speaker A

No.

Speaker A

There's no evidence to actually support that.

Speaker A

And this is where I would agree with journalists on this one.

Speaker A

There's no evidence support that.

Speaker A

However, depending on what you've consume on the Internet can eventually affect you.

Speaker A

Just one of those things.

Speaker A

Not talking to people on the other side, not understanding what the other side arguments are, not understanding that we need to separate ideas from people and understand that people are people and lives do matter.

Speaker A

Annihilating people because you disagree with them is never the case, it's never the course.

Speaker A

Which then leads me into my main thing that we really need to start talking to each other.

Speaker A

We really need to start getting out of the bubbles of the Internet and seeing each other face to face and discussing issues in respect to each other.

Speaker A

We can disagree, fine, we can be highly debatable, we can have a highly tested argument, but in the end we need to understand that each other is a human.

Speaker A

On the other side is a father, is a son, etc.

Speaker A

A brother, sister, uncle, aunt, et cetera, et cetera.

Speaker A

This is the bedrock of understanding each other.

Speaker A

This is the bedrock of that.

Speaker A

We are all Americans.

Speaker A

If you live in America legally, we are all Americans.

Speaker A

We should all respect each other.

Speaker A

We should all not want to see each other die from assassinations, murder, etc.

Speaker A

School shootings, whatever.

Speaker A

We should not accept that.

Speaker A

I'm not saying we do legislations that inhibit freedoms or rights that people have, but it's still a tragedy.

Speaker A

A tragedy is a tragedy, is a tragedy.

Speaker A

Just like the tragedies that we've seen go around in the past few months.

Speaker A

They're all tragedies, it's all abhorrent.

Speaker A

But we really need to start talking to each other face to face, not online, face to face.

Speaker A

Touch the grass, talk to somebody.

Speaker A

This is the only way forward.

Speaker A

Because we are very.

Speaker A

We are not.

Speaker A

We.

Speaker A

We just don't like each other over political issues.

Speaker A

And it's sad because we should be respectful of each other.

Speaker A

But the problem is that the more we're online, the more we don't see each other's humanity.

Speaker A

The more we dehumanize each other, the more we don't care about each other and the worse this gets.

Speaker A

And that is a problem.

Speaker A

That is a big problem.

Speaker A

As gamers, I want all gamers to succeed.

Speaker A

I want all gamers to have fun as a person.

Speaker A

I want everybody to succeed.

Speaker A

I want everybody to be successful.

Speaker A

And I want everybody to have fun in their life.

Speaker A

Right, left, whatever.

Speaker A

We can disagree on specific things, but I all want you to be fruitful.

Speaker A

I all want you to be prosperous.

Speaker A

It's just the human thing.

Speaker A

I want to see people succeed.

Speaker A

And we should say that to everybody.

Speaker A

Maybe not the ones that actually commit crimes because they should actually be punished for it, but those that actually abide by the laws.

Speaker A

I want to see succeeded.

Speaker A

I don't want to see this division.

Speaker A

I don't want to see civil war.

Speaker A

It's a terrible thing to even suggest, but it's being suggested on both sides and that does need to stop.

Speaker A

We've already been through one in the 18, late 1800s, and it was a horrific thing.

Speaker A

I don't think we want to see that again.

Speaker A

So, gamers, let's talk to one another respectfully.

Speaker A

Let's touch grass and see each other's eyes and faces.

Speaker A

And let's agree to disagree, but with respect.

Speaker A

And that's all I'm saying.

Speaker A

Let's love each other's passions for gaming, whether it's Battlefield 6, Call of Duty.

Speaker A

If you love it, fine.

Speaker A

Whatever.

Speaker A

No man's skies.

Speaker A

Whatever.

Speaker A

Helldivers2 Great game.

Speaker A

Let's bring back humanity in each other and not hate each other that we want to kill each other in the real world, in the digital world, fine.

Speaker A

See who's the better competitor if you play first person shooter games.

Speaker A

But this it needs to stop.

Speaker A

Anyways that is the show for this week.

Speaker A

I do appreciate you you listening in as always.

Speaker A

All right guys, stay safe.

Speaker A

Get to talking to somebody else that you disagree with and being respectful.

Speaker A

Play the games that you want to play and be try to be as much respectful as you can be.

Speaker A

I know it can be frustrating when you lose.

Speaker A

See you next week.

Speaker A

Later.
